You gotta start somewhere

I set up my first blog just before I went to Rwanda last June. It was pretty painless. I chose a simple design. Downloaded a few photos. Wrote a few posts. Voila. I was a blogger.

Fast forward a year.

A few months ago, I decided I wanted to set up a Twitter account. I already considered myself a Facebook addict. Friends made comments about how much time I spent there. I felt misunderstood. Embarrassed. Most of my friends were so immersed in Facebook, I figured they wouldn’t miss me if I took a little cyber detour.

Before I knew it I was M.I.A. (or M.I.T. Missing in Twitterland).

Just this past week I hit 1,000 followers. Who knew?

I love my followers. They are smart, interesting, funny, and irreverent. And talented. And because they are talented, lots of them have blogs that show off their work–writing, acting, singing, raising awareness about important causes. You get the idea.

“Where’s your blog?” they ask.

“I don’t have a blog,” I reply. “But I do have a newspaper column.” *smile*

“What? No blog?” I imagine them thinking. “But EVERYONE who’s ANYONE on Twitter has a blog!”

So, here I am. Blogging my thoughts for all the world to see. Hope you’ll join me. Get ready for a wild ride.

  1. Welcome to the blogging world! I think we follow each other on TWITTER. (@stopxtrempovrty) I’ve had http://stopextremepoverty.com/ up and running for about 18 months & it has been very rewarding and gratifying. I’ve met many wonderful people through my online experience and I’m sure you will too. I look forward to your future posts. Best wishes.

  2. Thanks, Michael! Yes we do follow each other and I RT you often! Love the work you’re doing and will look forward to following your blog as well. Thank you for your kind words. Have a great day. Best, L.
